According to a recent survey by travel intelligence services provider Mabrian Technologies, Crete is predicted to be one of the world’s top 10 trending destinations in 2023. The survey focused on active tourism, nature, and well-being, ranking destinations based on their tourism offer, connectivity, and hotel prices.
Crete came in second place after Bali and before Algarve in the survey of over 700 destinations worldwide. The report considered the destination’s share in active, natural, and wellness tourism, as well as its new air route growth, air capacity growth, capacity per quarter, and average hotel prices.
The survey found that Crete has a 57 percent share in active, natural, and wellness tourism, with a 15 percent growth in new air routes and a 16.77 percent increase in air capacity growth compared to last year, both for domestic and international routes. The average hotel prices in Crete are 86.05 euros.
Mabrian analysts suggest that travelers are increasingly interested in tourism activities related to nature, active, and wellness tourism, which has been a growing trend since 2019 and is expected to continue in the coming years.
The top 10 trending destinations for 2023 are Bali, Crete, Algarve (Portugal), Bretagne and Corsica (France), Wales (UK), Sardinia (Italy), Antalya (Turkey), Maldives, and Sicily (Italy).
Crete’s popularity as a destination is not surprising given its diverse landscapes, rich history, and warm climate. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, from hiking in the mountains to relaxing on the beach, and indulge in local cuisine and culture.
